Kratos Successfully Launches Four Rockets in Support of Missile Defense Exercise
SAN DIEGO, Nov 9, 2009 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:KTOS), a leading national security, information technology and public safety solutions provider, announced that its Rocket Support Services Business Unit (RSS) located in Glen Burnie, Maryland, successfully launched a total of four rocket targets in two separate launch events from the Pacific Missile Range Facility/Kauai Test Facility in support of joint U.S.-Japan Ballistic Missile Defense events.
The first launch of two Aegis Readiness Assessment Vehicle -- B variant (ARAV-B) rockets occurred on 13 October in order to provide threat-representative surrogates for the event. The second launch of two additional ARAV-Bs occurred the following Friday to further assess the tracking capabilities of the U.S. and Japanese Aegis-equipped ships operating off the Kauai coast.
Dave Carter, Kratos' Executive Vice President of Defense Engineering Solutions, emphasized that, "We work closely with our Government partners to provide cost-effective yet capable and reliable rockets for these events and I am very pleased that all four rockets performed as expected and supported the achievement of all mission objectives. We are confident that this combined effort, which also leveraged the computational fluid dynamics expertise of Kratos' Digital Fusion business unit, helped to further the objectives of sea-based Ballistic Missile Defense."
"I am personally thrilled by the ongoing success of our ARAVs. With these four launches, our RSS support team now has a combined track record of 26 successful launches in 26 attempts. We remain extremely proud of these opportunities to continue our support of the White Sands Missile Range Detachment of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division and the vitally important Ballistic Missile Defense mission," said Eric DeMarco, Kratos' President and Chief Executive Officer who was on hand to observe the first launch event.
