San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Selects WFI to Implement Tactical Survey(TM) Security Technology at San Diego International Airport
SAN DIEGO, Feb 09, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- San Diego-based Wireless Facilities, Inc. (WFI) (Nasdaq: WFII), a global leader in the design, deployment, and management of wireless communication networks, technology networks, and security systems, announced today that it has been selected by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority to implement its Tactical Survey(TM) security tool for San Diego International Airport. Tactical Survey is a computer-based technology that was created by WFI and its partner, Tactical Survey Group, Inc. (TSG) of Crestline, Ca.
Together, WFI and TSG provide a tool that assists law enforcement and first responders in responding to or training for a security or safety incident. The tool provides three-dimensional tactical images of a building and its immediate surroundings. The San Diego International Airport project covers approximately 1 million square feet of property, including three passenger terminals, the air traffic control tower and representative aircraft. The Tactical Survey product presents a 360-degree virtual tour of a facility, providing a way for security, law enforcement, firefighting and other life-saving personnel to 'see through' doors and walls and around corners. The images displayed by Tactical Survey are embedded with related tactical information, such as location of valve shutoffs, hazardous materials and key personnel. Any image can be clicked to display the related information. WFI and TSG will continue to collect imagery of San Diego International Airport and embed the related data for the Airport Authority's use.
The entire effort was made possible through the Department of Defense's Technical Support Working Group (TSWG) an office of the DoD charged with bringing cutting-edge technologies to a broad spectrum of government agencies with specialized security requirements.
San Diego International Airport was selected by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as a candidate for this project to demonstrate the value of the technology in supporting preparation of first responders for a variety of emergencies.
"Tactical Survey is a vital tool to help San Diego International Airport be prepared in the event of an emergency situation," said Steve Roth, President of WFI's Government Services Division. "This product is being used today by a number of local and federal agencies, all of whom want to be fully prepared to respond quickly by using robust geographic data and visuals to guide emergency personnel. We commend San Diego International Airport and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority for embracing these mature, leading-edge technologies to enhance their security and crisis response capabilities."
"We recognize the enormous advantages that an incident response and training tool like the Tactical Survey brings to our security portfolio at San Diego International Airport," said Mark Denari, Director, Aviation Security and Public Safety for the Airport Authority. "Tactical Survey provides an effective and intuitive method of presenting visual and tactical information to support emergency and crisis response efforts. We are pleased to have this tool in place and delighted to be working with a San Diego-based company to improve and enhance our aviation security and emergency management programs."
